Counselling in Hampshire with Pauline A Hughes MBACP (Snr. Accred)
Your first counselling session
Our first session will be an opportunity for both of us to decide whether we wish to work together. I will ask you what you hope to achieve in counselling and what your needs are. Counselling can be short term, or longer open-ended work. The issues you bring will determine the length of the work we need to do together. We will review our work regularly.
My fees are usually set but in some circumstances I am willing to offer concessions.
About my Approach to Counselling
The Person Centred Approach is recognised as one of the best empirically supported models of counselling. Person-Centred Counselling is a process, achieved by the counsellor providing a confidential, therapeutic relationship, within which you will hopefully experience the counsellor as non-judgemental, empathic, warm and real.
In today’s world we are all surrounded by messages telling us how we should live our lives. As a consequence we lose touch with our own real selves and feel under constant pressure to conform.
In order for behaviour to change, a change in perception must be experienced. Intellectual knowledge cannot substitute for this.

When you come for counselling at Redwood Health Therapies in Winchester, you will meet a counsellor who will listen to you and really try and understand your world, believing ultimately it is you, the client who knows the best way forward. I will not tell you what to do, or offer solutions or answers. The relationship between your counsellor and you will be the main focus You will be helped to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe, confidential space, at your own pace. The decision to come for counselling will be yours, you cannot ‘be sent’ for counselling.
My task is to facilitate your exploration and to accompany you, on your journey of discovery. This will often involve change and getting in touch with feelings, which you may find painful.
The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.

On your own it is very difficult to hear your own thoughts and feelings. However, with a well trained counsellor you will find it much easier to recognise what is needed for you to move forward.
